New Jersey isn't one design problem. It's a different one in every town.

Interior Design in New Jersey

New Jersey does not call for one design language. A shore house, an established colonial, an apartment, a suburban new build, and a professional workplace each begin with different questions about light, movement, storage, materials, and daily use. The work begins by identifying those conditions rather than applying a look to a place.

New Jersey packs an unusual range of housing stock into a small state, and almost none of it matches. A shingle-style river house in Rumson, a 1920s Tudor in Short Hills, a Victorian with a wraparound porch in Spring Lake, a brick Georgian on two acres in Saddle River, a postwar split level in Livingston waiting for its third addition, a new build on an infill lot in Freehold. Different decades, different framing, different ceiling heights, different problems. A firm that designs the same room everywhere gets found out fast in this state.

INSABELLADESIGN has worked in New Jersey since 1996. The studio is at 160 White Road in Little Silver, in Monmouth County, and the practice reaches across New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Florida. Thirty years in, that adds up to more than 3 million square feet designed and over 500 clients. We are ASID and IIDA members and a WBENC-certified woman-owned firm, and founder and principal Beth Insabella Walsh leads every project herself.

The New Jersey brief is usually one firm that can take the whole thing, said four different ways: space planning that fixes a closed-off first floor, a kitchen that finally works for the way the family cooks and entertains, millwork and lighting that make an older house feel deliberate instead of patched, furnishings and art that land on the same day the punch list closes. We handle all of it in house, and we manage the trades and the calendar so the owner isn't the general contractor by accident. A good share of our work comes from referrals and repeat clients built up over three decades in one state.

What We Design Across New Jersey

For residential projects, we coordinate planning, kitchens and baths, custom millwork, lighting, furnishings, art, and the detailed choices that connect them. A full renovation may involve a whole-house strategy; a focused engagement may resolve the room that changes how the home functions every day. In either case, the design direction is tied to the way the household lives, not a preset package.

For selected commercial work, the brief starts with users, circulation, privacy, maintenance, and the experience of arrival. Offices, professional practices, amenity spaces, and client-facing interiors benefit when planning, material selection, lighting, and furniture are developed as one coordinated environment.

INSABELLADESIGN was established in 1996 by founder and principal Beth Insabella Walsh, ASID, IIDA, CID. The studio is based in Little Silver, New Jersey and is WBENC-certified and woman-owned. A principal-led process connects the design direction to the planning, materials, documentation, sourcing, coordination, and installation support appropriate to the engagement.

On the residential side we take on whole-home renovations, gut interiors, additions, and new construction, plus single-room projects when the room deserves it. That means architecture-grade space planning, custom kitchens built around real cooking and real entertaining, primary baths in honed stone and custom vanities, paneled studies and libraries, mudrooms, wine rooms, and the built-ins that make a big house feel resolved. Lighting is designed room by room rather than dropped in at the end. Furnishings, textiles, rugs and art are selected as part of the same plan, not as an afterthought. We work with architects and builders from the earliest drawings when a project is ground-up, shaping proportion, window placement and material palette before framing starts.

The commercial practice runs on the same full-service model. Law and financial offices, private medical and dental practices, corporate suites and executive floors, hospitality interiors, showrooms and retail. Space planning, custom millwork and casework, lighting design, finishes chosen to survive daily traffic, furniture specification and installation, and project management from first drawing to opening day. One thing we don't do: home staging. We design interiors people live and work in, not rooms dressed for a listing photo.

New Jersey Interior Design — FAQs

How do you decide whether a New Jersey project is a fit?

The first conversation focuses on the property or business, desired scope, decision-makers, project conditions, and the level of design involvement that would be useful. It is the right time to determine whether the engagement is a fit before design decisions begin.

Will Beth Insabella Walsh be involved?

Beth is the founder and principal. She guides the design direction with a senior team supporting the detailed work of coordination, documentation, sourcing, and installation support appropriate to the project.
