Summit and Westfield reward restraint. The best houses here look like nothing was done to them, and everything was.
Interior Design in Union County
Union County projects often involve established homes whose proportions and materials deserve attention, alongside commercial environments where the physical experience of a business shapes client confidence. The design process begins by locating the issues that affect life in the space: circulation, storage, lighting, privacy, room use, and the details worth retaining.
Summit and Westfield are the two Union County addresses people move for, and they have more in common than the map suggests. Both are built around a walkable downtown and a direct train to Manhattan. Both are dominated by housing that is roughly a century old — Summit's shingle-style, Tudor and colonial revival houses on the streets off Springfield Avenue and up toward Hobart and Beekman; Westfield's Victorians, Dutch colonials and center-hall colonials through Wychwood, Stanley and the Gardens. Deep lots, mature trees, slate and cedar roofs, and interiors laid out for a way of running a household that ended eighty years ago.
That last part is the design problem, and it is the one we have been solving since 1996. INSABELLADESIGN is a full-service interior design firm — space planning, custom kitchens and baths, millwork, lighting, furnishings, art and project management — led personally by Beth Insabella Walsh. We are ASID and IIDA members and a WBENC-certified woman-owned business, with roughly three million square feet designed and more than 500 clients across New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Florida. Much of our work arrives by referral, which is generally how a firm earns its way into towns like these.
What We Design Across Union County
Whole-home renovation, kitchens, primary suites, family rooms, home offices, built-ins, lighting, and furnishings are developed as parts of one plan. A house can become more capable without losing the structure and detail that make it distinctive.
For selected professional, wellness, retail, and client-facing spaces, we consider approach, comfort, material performance, lighting, and the route people take through the environment. These choices form the business experience as much as the visual identity does.
INSABELLADESIGN was established in 1996 by founder and principal Beth Insabella Walsh, ASID, IIDA, CID. The studio is based in Little Silver, New Jersey and is WBENC-certified and woman-owned. A principal-led process connects the design direction to the planning, materials, documentation, sourcing, coordination, and installation support appropriate to the engagement.
The residential work here runs from whole-house renovation down to a single room done properly. Kitchens are the usual anchor, and in a hundred-year-old house that means designing within a real floor plan — relocating a back stair, absorbing a butler's pantry, working out where a range wall can go without wrecking the circulation, then building it in custom cabinetry with honed or polished stone, unlacquered brass or nickel, and layered lighting. Beyond the kitchen: primary suites and baths carved out of rooms that never had them, third-floor and lower-level finishing, paneled studies and libraries, mudrooms, dining rooms, and complete furnishings, window treatments and art selection. New millwork always gets profiled against the original, because in a Summit shingle-style or a Westfield Victorian that is the difference between a renovation and a repair.
We also design commercial interiors, which is relevant in two boroughs with this much professional activity — the office and professional space along Springfield Avenue and around the Summit medical corridor, downtown Westfield offices and retail, and the multi-tenant buildings serving both. That work includes space planning and test fits, private offices and open floors, conference rooms, reception and lobbies, medical and dental practices, and the finish, lighting and furniture packages that go with them. Same principal, same process, same standard of detail.

Union County Interior Design — FAQs
Do you take on one important room as well as a larger renovation?
Yes. The scope should match the problem. A focused room can be the right engagement when it has clear functional and design requirements; a consultation helps determine whether it should also be connected to a broader house plan.
Will Beth Insabella Walsh be involved?
Beth is the founder and principal. She guides the design direction with a senior team supporting the detailed work of coordination, documentation, sourcing, and installation support appropriate to the project.
