Interior Design in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey
Atlantic Highlands’ harbor, steep streets, and mix of older shore houses and newer builds create design opportunities that reward careful planning. Rooms that sit on a slope, stairs that become transitions rather than obstacles, and sightlines to water all change how a plan must be arranged. We begin by measuring views and light patterns, then arrange living spaces so daylight, ventilation, and outdoor access feel unforced.
Older shore-house character can be an advantage when treated with respect: original proportions, narrow porches, and millwork inform a modern intervention rather than dictate it. Our work balances the comfortable, familiar elements worth retaining with modern systems, durable finishes, and furniture that reads as restrained and coastal-adjacent without cliché.
Neighborhoods we serve: Mount Avenue · Ocean Boulevard · The Highlands hillside · Portland Road · First Avenue · Harbor area

Luxury Residential Interior Design in Atlantic Highlands
For homeowners, the priority is often the view and the way rooms meet the landscape. We orient primary living spaces, kitchens, and primary suites to make the most of sightlines and natural light, using glazing, scaled overhangs, and layered window treatments that control glare without blocking the view. Kitchens are laid out for family use and easy entertaining; durable surfaces and carefully specified appliances reconcile daily wear with refined finishes.
Outdoor-adjacent rooms — mudrooms, porches, and glazed sun spaces — are treated as extensions of interiors: detailed thresholds, moisture-appropriate materials, and furniture selections that work for both salt air and family life. We favor material palettes that read coastal by temperature and texture rather than by motif — warm woods, light stone, woven textiles, and corrosion-resistant metals — and we document how each choice will age in a marine environment.

The INSABELLADESIGN Difference
Principal-led work means Beth Insabella Walsh, ASID, IIDA, CID, stays involved from early concept through installation. That continuity keeps big decisions coherent and technical details resolved: we produce measured drawings, finish schedules, custom millwork documentation, and procurement plans so contractors and trades have what they need.
We coordinate with structural engineers, landscape architects, and builders and manage furniture, fixtures, and equipment procurement. Our approach prioritizes material intelligence and execution — how a corner will be sealed against salt air, how a stair meets a landing, which finish will stand up to family life — so the result feels quietly refined and reliably durable.

How a Project Works
1. Start with a conversation
A consultation at our Little Silver studio or your property. We talk through the space, the scope, how you live or work in it, and what you want the finished project to accomplish. No obligation, and you will always be speaking with Beth.
2. Design and decisions
Space planning, materials, millwork and cabinetry design, lighting, and furnishings developed into one coherent plan, with drawings and documentation your contractor and trades can actually build from.
3. We carry it to the finish
We coordinate the trades, manage orders and timelines, and stay on the project through installation and styling, so you get a completed space rather than a plan left for you to assemble.

Atlantic Highlands Interior Design FAQs
Are you interior designers or interior decorators?
We are a full-service design firm. That means space planning and design documentation, custom kitchens and baths, millwork, lighting, furnishing and installation. Decoration is part of the work, not the whole of it.
What does full service include?
Drawings, custom millwork and casework, lighting design, finishes, furnishings, procurement, trade coordination and installation. We coordinate the trades and manage the schedule.
Have you worked in this area?
Yes. Holmdel Residence, Colts Neck Residence and Monmouth Medical Center are in Monmouth County. The studio is in Little Silver and we work across New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Florida.
Do you design commercial spaces as well as homes?
Yes. Alongside residential work we design medical, corporate, government, retail and multifamily interiors. Work in Monmouth County includes Monmouth Medical Center, Monmouth County Prosecutors Office and Monmouth County Child Advocacy Center.
Do you take single rooms, or only whole homes?
Both. Scope runs from a single room to a full renovation or new build.
How do your fees work?
It depends on scope, from a single room to a full renovation or new build. After an initial consultation we provide a detailed proposal.
Who leads the project?
Beth Insabella Walsh, the firm’s founder, leads every project.
