Interior Design in Livingston, New Jersey
Livingston is one of Essex County's flagship suburbs: top-ranked schools, a strong sense of community, and a housing stock that has steadily upgraded over the years from mid-century colonials to substantial new custom builds. The families here tend to be successful professionals and business owners who invested in the town for the long term, and who want homes that reflect their success without shouting about it. It's affluence with a family-first, built-to-last outlook.
That outlook shapes the design work. Livingston homeowners generally aren't chasing a magazine trend; they want interiors that function beautifully for a busy household and still look right in fifteen years. That might mean a full renovation of an older colonial, a ground-up interior on a new custom build, or reworking the kitchen and primary suite that matter most to daily life. The unifying goal is quality and longevity over spectacle.

Luxury Residential Interior Design in Livingston
For Livingston homes, full renovation of established colonials and interior design on new custom builds are where we're strongest. We design chef-caliber custom kitchens with furniture-grade cabinetry, stone counters, and islands sized for family life and entertaining; spa primary baths with heated stone, custom vanities, and freestanding tubs; and primary suites that give busy parents a genuine retreat at the far end of a full house.
The built-ins and millwork are what make a home feel finished rather than furnished: a paneled study for the executive working from home, mudrooms that survive real family traffic, coffered ceilings and wainscot that give a great room architecture. We plan lighting in layers so rooms work morning to night, scale furniture to the space so nothing floats, and build around the pieces families already love. The result is classic, comfortable, and built to last.

Commercial Interior Design in Livingston
Many Livingston residents own or lead the businesses that fill the town's commercial corridors and the wider Essex County market, and we design the spaces to match. We handle executive and professional offices, medical and dental suites, financial and legal practices, and boutique retail: space planning, custom millwork, and finishes that look sharp and professional without feeling corporate. The same quality-over-flash instinct that guides our residential work carries directly into these commercial projects.

The INSABELLADESIGN Difference
Livingston families tend to hire a designer for the long haul: a kitchen first, then the primary suite, then the whole downstairs before a big family milestone. That repeat pattern only works when one person owns the relationship, and here that's Beth Insabella Walsh, who leads every project herself rather than handing it to a junior team. The person you meet with is the person accountable start to finish.
Since 1996 we've built our practice on referrals and repeat business rather than advertising, a fit for a town like Livingston, where families hire on a neighbor's recommendation and a track record, not a slick pitch. That's exactly the standard we hold ourselves to on every home.

I must say it's been my pleasure to have had the opportunity to work with Beth and her team at Insabella Design. My boss has been a long time client of Beth, over 25 years. And over those many years I was fortunate enough to work with Beth directly. She is extremely attentive and knows exactly what needs to be done. She has designed numerous major renovations and reconstruction projects for us. She has always been a pleasure to work with from the beginning of the projects to the very end. If I ever needed something in a pinch she always makes it happen. I would be completely lost without her and her support in keeping my boss comfortable and happy. Thank you Beth, to you and your team for your excellent services.

How a Project Works
1. Start with a conversation
A consultation at our Little Silver studio or your property. We talk through the space, the scope, how you live or work in it, and what you want the finished project to accomplish. No obligation, and you will always be speaking with Beth.
2. Design and decisions
Space planning, materials, millwork and cabinetry design, lighting, and furnishings developed into one coherent plan, with drawings and documentation your contractor and trades can actually build from.
3. We carry it to the finish
We coordinate the trades, manage orders and timelines, and stay on the project through installation and styling, so you get a completed space rather than a plan left for you to assemble.

Livingston Interior Design FAQs
We're building a custom home in Livingston. When should you get involved?
As early as possible, ideally during design or framing. Coming in before finishes are locked lets us shape space planning, cabinetry, millwork, and lighting so the interior architecture is right from the start, which is far cheaper than correcting it later.
Can you update an older Livingston colonial without gutting it?
Often, yes. The heart of that work is reworking dated kitchens and baths and opening up compartmentalized rooms while keeping the finishes and character worth preserving. We plan around what's valuable and update the rest.
We want quality that lasts, not a trendy look. Is that your approach?
It's exactly the reason most Livingston clients call us. We spec cabinetry and stone from lines that do not go out of production, avoid finish choices that read as trendy the moment the paint dries, and choose furniture scaled to the room rather than to a photo shoot.
Do you design for busy families with kids?
Yes. We build in the practical infrastructure family life needs: durable finishes, real mudrooms and drop zones, smart storage, so a beautiful home still holds up to daily use. Livability is part of the design.
How does a Livingston project usually begin?
With a consultation at your home with Beth Insabella Walsh, where we walk the space, talk through how you live, and set priorities. From there we develop a plan and phase the work to fit your timeline and budget.
