A billiard room becomes a bar: the materials in the Colts Neck bar area
What went into the Colts Neck bar: a deep teal LED-backlit acrylic panel, abalone shell wallcovering, dark-stained maple, quartz, velvet, and motorized shades.
The client is a musician, and the room was a billiard room. The brief was a full-service bar with the character of a nightclub. The project page lists what was used to get there.
The centerpiece is a deep teal, dimmable, LED-backlit acrylic wall panel with clear acrylic shelves, so the bottles and glasses are lit from behind. Around it are abalone shell wallcovering and dark-stained maple floors. Velvet drapes and two motorized window shades take the room to full blackout.
The bar top is quartz, the cabinetry is plain, and the appliances are hidden. LED color-changing lights run under the bar, and a shimmery vinyl wallcovering picks them up. Seating is faux leather and high-performance velvet. A flat screen runs a photo slideshow and the room has surround sound.
Why these materials
Every surface in the room either carries light or takes it. The acrylic, the abalone, the vinyl, and the quartz carry it; the maple, the velvet, and the drapes take it. That is what makes a dimmable room work at both ends of the dimmer.
