A bank branch becomes a construction company’s headquarters in Holmdel
How a former bank in Holmdel, New Jersey, was converted into the JR Cruz headquarters with repurposed brick, reclaimed barn wood, exposed ceilings, and height-adjustable desks.
JR Cruz is a family-owned heavy construction company. When it needed a headquarters, it bought a traditional bank branch in Holmdel and asked the firm to convert it into an industrial office.
The materials came from the company’s own work. Concrete, brick, and wood are what its crews handle on site, so the interior uses repurposed bricks from construction sites, reclaimed barn wood, exposed ceilings, industrial LED pendants, and aged wood and metal laminate textures. Height-adjustable desks and smart technology sit inside that shell.
VUE magazine covered the project in April 2021. Its account describes pocket doors between offices, glass partitions that carry daylight into the plan, motorized sit-to-stand desks, a floating wooden staircase, and a conference room with integrated technology, and it notes the bank’s former elevator shaft kept as an industrial element.
What the project shows
A commercial interior can take its palette from what the business does rather than from a catalogue. The project page lists the materials; the ASID New Jersey chapter gave the work a Silver award.
