Interior Design in Jersey City, New Jersey
Jersey City's historic districts are precisely bounded: Van Vorst Park's late-Victorian rowhouses cover 7.7 acres, Hamilton Park's run 42 more, and Harsimus Cove adds another 60, all on the National Register since the 1970s and 80s. A few blocks east, the Gold Coast towers of Exchange Place and Newport put the Manhattan skyline on the other side of the glass, on the waterfront where the Morris Canal once ended. INSABELLADESIGN, founded in 1996, designs interiors across both halves of the city.
In Van Vorst Park, Hamilton Park, Harsimus Cove, or landmarked Paulus Hook, the sequence is fixed before design even starts: any exterior work needs a Certificate of Appropriateness or a Certificate of No Effect from the city's Historic Preservation Commission, reviewed against the Secretary of the Interior's Standards, before a construction permit gets pulled. We build that review into the schedule from the first meeting, not as a surprise partway through.

Luxury Residential Interior Design in Jersey City
In the waterfront towers, the view is the reason you bought the unit, and every material decision gets weighed against it: warm walnut and stone temper the glass, custom built-ins and a proper dressing room solve the storage developers routinely skip, and layered lighting turns the skyline into an evening feature instead of a black mirror after dark. Kitchens built for real cooking, primary baths with a freestanding tub, and a home office that actually functions are standard here, not an upgrade.
In the brownstones of Van Vorst and Paulus Hook, the work runs the other direction: protecting and restoring original moldings, medallions, mantels, and floors, then threading a modern life through rooms built for gas light and coal heat. A parlor floor becomes an open entertaining level with a proper island and a wine room; the garden level opens to a rear yard; the top floor becomes a primary suite set above the noise of the street.

Commercial Interior Design in Jersey City
Jersey City is a genuine commercial center now: the financial back offices around Exchange Place, the restaurants and rooftop bars downtown, boutique fitness and pilates studios, and design-forward medical and dental practices. We design the upscale end of that spectrum, with space planning, custom millwork, and finishes calibrated to make a business look established from the first handshake.

The INSABELLADESIGN Difference
INSABELLADESIGN is deliberately a boutique firm in a city that rewards speed: every project, the Gold Coast penthouse, the Hamilton Park brownstone, or the waterfront restaurant, runs through founder Beth Insabella Walsh personally. One vision, one point of accountability, start to finish.
Since 1996 we've built our reputation the way this waterfront got built: block by block, one finished project at a time. Every Jersey City project still runs through the same founder, Beth Insabella Walsh, from first sketch to last invoice.

How a Project Works
1. Start with a conversation
A consultation at our Little Silver studio or your property. We talk through the space, the scope, how you live or work in it, and what you want the finished project to accomplish. No obligation, and you will always be speaking with Beth.
2. Design and decisions
Space planning, materials, millwork and cabinetry design, lighting, and furnishings developed into one coherent plan, with drawings and documentation your contractor and trades can actually build from.
3. We carry it to the finish
We coordinate the trades, manage orders and timelines, and stay on the project through installation and styling, so you get a completed space rather than a plan left for you to assemble.

Jersey City Interior Design FAQs
Are you interior designers or interior decorators?
We are a full-service design firm. That means space planning and design documentation, custom kitchens and baths, millwork, lighting, furnishing and installation. Decoration is part of the work, not the whole of it.
What does full service include?
Drawings, custom millwork and casework, lighting design, finishes, furnishings, procurement, trade coordination and installation. We coordinate the trades and manage the schedule.
Have you worked in this area?
The studio is in Little Silver and we work across New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Florida, Jersey City included.
Do you design commercial spaces as well as homes?
Yes. Alongside residential work we design medical, corporate, government, retail and multifamily interiors.
Do you take single rooms, or only whole homes?
Both. Scope runs from a single room to a full renovation or new build.
How do your fees work?
It depends on scope, from a single room to a full renovation or new build. After an initial consultation we provide a detailed proposal.
Who leads the project?
Beth Insabella Walsh, the firm’s founder, leads every project.
