Interior Design in Brooklyn, New York
Brooklyn's best neighborhoods hold some of the finest residential architecture in America: the limestone and brownstone rows of Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope, and Cobble Hill, with their parlor floors, original mantels, and hundred-and-fifty-year-old detail, alongside the converted warehouse lofts and glass condos of DUMBO looking back at the Manhattan skyline. The people buying here are affluent, design-literate, and deliberate; they chose Brooklyn's soul over Manhattan's polish, and they want interiors that honor the choice.
That taste is a pleasure to design for. INSABELLADESIGN has designed high-end interiors serving the New York metro since 1996, and Brooklyn asks for both craft and range: the restoration of a landmarked brownstone's plaster and woodwork one project, the warming of a raw waterfront loft the next. We know the historic-district rules, the co-op and condo boards, and the trades that make a brownstone gut go right.

Luxury Residential Interior Design in Brooklyn
In the brownstones, our work is restoration and reinvention in equal measure. We preserve and revive the original moldings, plaster medallions, marble mantels, and parquet that make these houses extraordinary, then thread a full modern life through them: a chef-caliber parlor-floor kitchen with a real island, spa primary baths, a garden level that opens to the yard, and the millwork and built-ins that resolve a century of quirks into a coherent home. We open just enough to bring in light without gutting the soul.
In the DUMBO and waterfront condos, the palette shifts to warm materials against industrial and glass shells: custom built-ins and dressing rooms, layered lighting that makes the bridge-and-skyline view a nighttime feature, and rooms scaled for how people actually live in a loft. We keep the raw architecture legible while making it genuinely comfortable.

Commercial Interior Design in Brooklyn
Brooklyn's commercial scene is as design-forward as its residents: chef-driven restaurants and cocktail bars, boutique retail and galleries, creative and tech offices, and design-conscious medical, dental, and aesthetic practices across Brooklyn Heights, DUMBO, and the brownstone neighborhoods. We design the upscale end with custom millwork, considered lighting, and finishes that read as authentic rather than manufactured.

The INSABELLADESIGN Difference
Homeowners in Brooklyn are sophisticated and want a designer with real judgment, not a catalog. INSABELLADESIGN runs every project, the Park Slope brownstone gut, the DUMBO loft, the neighborhood restaurant, through founder Beth Insabella Walsh personally, so the distinctive, characterful result the borough expects never gets flattened into something generic.
We serve Brooklyn from just across the harbor and know its brownstone blocks, landmark rules, and boards well; clients who keep a Brooklyn home and a second place in the suburbs or at the shore often want one eye across both. As a woman-owned, WBENC-certified firm with ASID and IIDA credentials, we bring craft and accountability to a market that values both.

How a Project Works
1. Start with a conversation
A consultation at our Little Silver studio or your property. We talk through the space, the scope, how you live or work in it, and what you want the finished project to accomplish. No obligation, and you will always be speaking with Beth.
2. Design and decisions
Space planning, materials, millwork and cabinetry design, lighting, and furnishings developed into one coherent plan, with drawings and documentation your contractor and trades can actually build from.
3. We carry it to the finish
We coordinate the trades, manage orders and timelines, and stay on the project through installation and styling, so you get a completed space rather than a plan left for you to assemble.

Brooklyn Interior Design FAQs
Do you restore Brooklyn brownstones?
Yes. Many of these houses were carved into two or three rental units decades ago, so a real restoration usually starts by figuring out where the original stair, parlor, and garden level actually meet again, then rebuilding those connections before we touch a finish. That structural detective work matters more than which mantel you pick.
Can you design a DUMBO or waterfront condo?
Yes. The typical loft problem is not a lack of character, it is sound, exposed brick and ductwork carry noise between the sleeping areas and the entertaining space, so we plan the layout and add sound-dampening detail where the open plan needs a quiet corner, without boxing the unit back into a conventional apartment.
Do you handle landmark and board approvals?
Yes. A Landmarks application typically needs precedent photos and a clear rationale for any exterior-visible change, and a co-op or condo board package usually wants contractor insurance certificates, a noise and work-hours plan, and references. We assemble both so you are not the one chasing paperwork mid-renovation.
You're based in New Jersey. Do you work in Brooklyn?
Yes. It is a normal commute for us, not a special trip, so site visits happen on the same schedule as any of our New Jersey projects. If your Brooklyn place and a shore or suburban house are meant to feel like they belong to the same family, one team keeping notes on both tends to make better decisions than two separate ones working from scratch.
Do you design restaurants and offices in Brooklyn?
Yes. Restaurant work in the city usually means designing around a hood and ventilation plan and a health department review before the finishes ever get chosen, so we bring in the right engineers early rather than treating code as a final hurdle. Offices and retail have their own approval quirks depending on the building, and we plan for those from day one too.
What does a full-service project include?
Space planning, custom kitchens and baths, millwork, lighting, furnishings, art curation, landmark and board approvals, and project management, from raw floor to installation, with Beth Insabella Walsh personally involved.
