Interior Design in Hoboken, New Jersey
Hoboken is a mile square, and its two halves ask for opposite skills. Hudson Street and the blocks around Castle Point hold the brick-and-brownstone rowhouses the city's preservation rules were written to protect, in the historic district that grew up around the Stevens family's 1853 mansion on the point. Maxwell Place and the Uptown piers hold the newer waterfront towers, glass boxes with the Manhattan skyline filling every window. INSABELLADESIGN works on both sides of that line.
In the historic district, the first call on an exterior renovation isn't to us, it's to the Hoboken Historic Preservation Commission. Any change visible from the street needs a Certificate of Appropriateness or a Certificate of No Effect before a permit is issued: window replacement is expected wood-for-wood, since vinyl is rarely approved, and non-masonry material on a facade is capped at a quarter of it. We build that approval into the schedule from the start, not as an afterthought.

Luxury Residential Interior Design in Hoboken
In the brownstones, the work is about reclaiming volume the building already has. We restore original moldings, plaster medallions, and heart-pine floors where they've survived a century of tenants, then run modern systems, real kitchens, spa baths, updated climate control, through walls that were framed for gas light. A parlor floor becomes an entertaining level with a working island; the garden level, often ignored, opens to whatever yard Hoboken's tight lots still allow.
In the waterfront towers, the problem flips. The building is new and the view does the selling, but the interior usually arrives generic: builder-grade cabinets, track lighting, no defined rooms. We give it substance instead: custom millwork and built-ins for storage a tower unit never has enough of, warm wood and stone against the glass, and lighting layered so the skyline reads as a feature after dark, not a black mirror. A dressing room, a real home office, wine storage.

Commercial Interior Design in Hoboken
Washington Street and the waterfront office parks give Hoboken a real commercial base, and we design for its upscale end: restaurants and bars with real design ambition, boutique fitness and pilates studios, and medical and dental practices finished to look considered, not clinical. Space planning, custom millwork, lighting, and finishes chosen so a new business looks established from its first week onward.

The INSABELLADESIGN Difference
INSABELLADESIGN stays a boutique firm on purpose. Every project, brownstone gut, penthouse fit-out, or restaurant build, runs through founder Beth Insabella Walsh directly, so the same person who files the Historic Preservation Commission application is the one choosing the tile, with nothing sitting on a hand-off in between.
Since 1996 we've carried that same model across the Hudson County waterfront: one founder, one point of view, from the first sketch to the final invoice. In a city this compact, a finished brownstone or a finished restaurant is visible to the next potential client before we've even left the block.

How a Project Works
1. Start with a conversation
A consultation at our Little Silver studio or your property. We talk through the space, the scope, how you live or work in it, and what you want the finished project to accomplish. No obligation, and you will always be speaking with Beth.
2. Design and decisions
Space planning, materials, millwork and cabinetry design, lighting, and furnishings developed into one coherent plan, with drawings and documentation your contractor and trades can actually build from.
3. We carry it to the finish
We coordinate the trades, manage orders and timelines, and stay on the project through installation and styling, so you get a completed space rather than a plan left for you to assemble.

Yes. Alongside residential work we design medical, corporate, government, retail and multifamily interiors.
Do you take single rooms, or only whole homes?
Both. Scope runs from a single room to a full renovation or new build.
How do your fees work?
It depends on scope, from a single room to a full renovation or new build. After an initial consultation we provide a detailed proposal.
