Interior Design in New Brunswick, New Jersey
New Brunswick has rebuilt its downtown for decades under the New Brunswick Development Corporation, the nonprofit Johnson & Johnson, Rutgers, and the city formed in the 1970s to redevelop it — roughly $3.5 billion in projects since. The results are specific buildings: The Heldrich on Livingston Avenue, 1 Spring Street, The Aspire and The Yard on Somerset Street, the Gateway Transit Village tower by the train station. Interior design in New Brunswick largely means finishing the inside of one of these.
Rutgers' College Avenue campus sits inside downtown itself, not apart from it, and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Saint Peter's University Hospital anchor a genuine medical district nearby, along with Johnson & Johnson's world headquarters, still in the city where the company was founded in 1886. INSABELLADESIGN has designed full-service residential and commercial interiors since 1996, and brings that range to a city where a condo tower and a hospital-adjacent office can be two blocks apart.

Luxury Residential Interior Design in New Brunswick
New Brunswick's residential opportunity is vertical: towers like The Aspire, The Yard, and the Residences at the Heldrich hand over a well-built shell, light, views, an open plan, and comparatively little else to distinguish one unit from the next. Our work is adding the architecture back in: custom millwork and built-ins that break up an open plan, statement lighting, a kitchen and primary bath finished above the building's standard spec.
Storage is the recurring problem in a new-construction unit: closets sized by a developer's spec sheet, not by an actual life. We build in custom storage, a home-office nook sized for a smaller footprint, and materials that are beautiful and low-maintenance rather than precious — a downtown unit that has to work daily, not just photograph well on move-in day.
- Luxury condo & penthouse interiors
- Custom millwork & built-ins
- Space-efficient urban design
- Tailored kitchens & spa baths
- Statement lighting
- Combined-unit renovations
- Home office nooks
- Whole-home furnishing

Commercial Interior Design in New Brunswick
Medical and institutional work is a natural fit here, given Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Saint Peter's University Hospital, and the Rutgers Cancer Institute campus nearby. We design medical and clinical suites and healthcare-adjacent offices, balancing code and workflow requirements against a waiting room that has to put someone at ease. In hospitality, we design for the hotels, restaurants, and event spaces built up around the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center and the rest of the redevelopment.

The INSABELLADESIGN Difference
New Brunswick's medical and institutional projects can be complex, and its residential towers are full of people with demanding jobs and little time to manage a renovation. Both are served by one accountable designer: every project runs through founder Beth Insabella Walsh, from the first meeting to the final detail, whether it's a condo at The Heldrich or a clinical suite near the hospital district.
INSABELLADESIGN is a full-service firm, ASID and IIDA credentialed and WBENC-certified woman-owned, equipped for the city's range: residential towers, medical suites, hospitality interiors, institutional and professional offices. We've practiced since 1996, and we handle the trades and the details on every one of them, in a city still actively being rebuilt around its own residents.

As an architect with considerable experience with differing project types, working with Beth and her staff has been a pleasure. Beth's team brought a fresh approach to the tired-looking interior of a subsidized housing midrise project built in the 1970s. Insabella Design is a highly skilled, motivated, and reliable firm that can be an asset to any interior design project. She and her team are dependable and committed to achieving excellence in their work. I look forward to working with Beth on our next project.

How a Project Works
1. Start with a conversation
A consultation at our Little Silver studio or your property. We talk through the space, the scope, how you live or work in it, and what you want the finished project to accomplish. No obligation, and you will always be speaking with Beth.
2. Design and decisions
Space planning, materials, millwork and cabinetry design, lighting, and furnishings developed into one coherent plan, with drawings and documentation your contractor and trades can actually build from.
3. We carry it to the finish
We coordinate the trades, manage orders and timelines, and stay on the project through installation and styling, so you get a completed space rather than a plan left for you to assemble.

New Brunswick Interior Design FAQs
Are you interior designers or interior decorators?
We are a full-service design firm. That means space planning and design documentation, custom kitchens and baths, millwork, lighting, furnishing and installation. Decoration is part of the work, not the whole of it.
What does full service include?
Drawings, custom millwork and casework, lighting design, finishes, furnishings, procurement, trade coordination and installation. We coordinate the trades and manage the schedule.
Have you worked in this area?
Yes. Vito Mazza Salon and Woodbridge Tenant Lounge are in Middlesex County. The studio is in Little Silver and we work across New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Florida.
Do you design commercial spaces as well as homes?
Yes. Alongside residential work we design medical, corporate, government, retail and multifamily interiors. Work in Middlesex County includes Vito Mazza Salon and Woodbridge Tenant Lounge.
Do you take single rooms, or only whole homes?
Both. Scope runs from a single room to a full renovation or new build.
How do your fees work?
It depends on scope, from a single room to a full renovation or new build. After an initial consultation we provide a detailed proposal.
Who leads the project?
Beth Insabella Walsh, the firm’s founder, leads every project.
