Interior Design in Allentown, New Jersey
Allentown is one of the most quietly beautiful boroughs in Monmouth County: a genuine historic Main Street of Victorians and colonials, a millpond, and streets that have kept their character for two centuries. Just beyond, the land opens into the horse country and gentleman's farms of Upper Freehold, where rural grandeur takes over. It's a rare mix of village charm and country scale, and it draws people who value both.
INSABELLADESIGN has worked throughout Monmouth County since 1996, and Allentown is exactly the kind of place our approach suits. The historic homes here reward a designer who respects the architecture, who knows how to update a period home so it lives comfortably now without stripping away the character that made it worth buying. The country properties beyond reward scale and warmth in equal measure. We're fluent in both.

Luxury Residential Interior Design in Allentown
In Allentown's historic Victorians and colonials, we restore and enhance rather than erase, preserving original moldings, proportions, and period detail while building custom kitchens with real cabinetry and stone surfaces, and spa baths with heated floors and freestanding tubs. The result is a home that reads as authentically itself, updated with a hand light enough that the seams never show.
For the horse-country and country homes beyond the borough, the rooms need to work as hard as the land does: paneled studies, wine rooms, layered living and dining rooms, and the millwork, built-ins, and lighting that give a large or rural home both structure and intimacy. We plan the mudrooms and boot rooms a country lifestyle demands, and outdoor living spaces that make the most of the land.

The INSABELLADESIGN Difference
In a close-knit historic borough like Allentown, trust is everything, and it's earned one project at a time. So much of our work comes from referrals and repeat clients: the kind of trust that comes from a careful renovation done right and a recommendation passed along.
Founder Beth Insabella Walsh personally leads every Allentown commission, whether a sensitive renovation of a historic Main Street home or the interior of a horse-country property in Upper Freehold. Since 1996 this ASID and IIDA credentialed firm, WBENC-certified and woman-owned, has built its reputation across Monmouth County on exactly that kind of earned trust and genuine craft.

I must say it's been my pleasure to have had the opportunity to work with Beth and her team at Insabella Design. My boss has been a long time client of Beth, over 25 years. And over those many years I was fortunate enough to work with Beth directly. She is extremely attentive and knows exactly what needs to be done. She has designed numerous major renovations and reconstruction projects for us. She has always been a pleasure to work with from the beginning of the projects to the very end. If I ever needed something in a pinch she always makes it happen. I would be completely lost without her and her support in keeping my boss comfortable and happy. Thank you Beth, to you and your team for your excellent services.

How a Project Works
1. Start with a conversation
A consultation at our Little Silver studio or your property. We talk through the space, the scope, how you live or work in it, and what you want the finished project to accomplish. No obligation, and you will always be speaking with Beth.
2. Design and decisions
Space planning, materials, millwork and cabinetry design, lighting, and furnishings developed into one coherent plan, with drawings and documentation your contractor and trades can actually build from.
3. We carry it to the finish
We coordinate the trades, manage orders and timelines, and stay on the project through installation and styling, so you get a completed space rather than a plan left for you to assemble.

Allentown Interior Design FAQs
Do you specialize in Allentown's historic homes?
Yes. It's one of the two things this practice is built around. Beyond the visible details, we pay close attention to what's invisible once we're done: updated wiring and insulation, HVAC routed without cutting into ceiling medallions or door surrounds, and mechanical systems sized correctly for old plaster walls that do not forgive a bad install.
Do you work on horse-country and country homes near Allentown?
We do. Beyond the borough, in Upper Freehold and the surrounding countryside, the priorities shift toward what a working property actually needs: mudrooms that survive muddy boots, primary suites that feel like a genuine retreat after a day outside, and enough storage and utility space that the house does not fight the land it sits on.
Can you update a period home without ruining its character?
That's exactly our approach. We start from what the house already does well, proportion, light, original woodwork, and design around protecting it, rather than gutting first and figuring out what to keep later.
Do you design commercial spaces on Allentown's Main Street?
Yes. Main Street's storefronts come with real constraints, narrow footprints, low ceilings in places, plaster walls that cannot just be furred out and drywalled over, and we design around those limits rather than fighting them, so the finished space still reads as part of the street.
Who oversees my project?
Beth, start to finish. She is in the initial walkthrough, she is the one approving finish selections and furniture layouts, and she is the one who does the final walkthrough before we call a project done. You are not passed to an associate partway through.
Where is your firm located?
Our studio is in Little Silver, in Monmouth County, within comfortable reach of Allentown and the surrounding horse country throughout a project.
