Interior Design in Interlaken, New Jersey
Interlaken exists because a Boston physician liked the view. In 1888, Dr. Francis Weld bought a 364-acre tract between Deal Lake and the ocean, named it after the Swiss town between two lakes, and in 1890 formed a land company to build an exclusive residential community on it. The borough incorporated in 1922 and has stayed small and tree-lined ever since, with curving streets of early-twentieth-century houses on generous, landscaped lots.
Those houses, mostly center-hall Colonials and shingle-style residences from the 1900s through the 1920s, were built with deep moldings, high ceilings, and a floor plan of small, distinct rooms: a butler's pantry here, a breakfast room there. The real design decision is which of those walls are load-bearing, since that answer determines whether opening the kitchen to the dining room is straightforward or a structural project.

Luxury Residential Interior Design in Interlaken
We restore and rework original detail, moldings, staircases, leaded glass, fireplaces, rather than cover it, and reconfigure the small, separate rooms these houses were built with into a layout that flows without losing the proportions that made the house worth buying. On the lots closest to the shoreline, we orient the main living spaces toward Deal Lake and the light that comes off the water.
The upgrades read as an extension of the house, not an addition to it: kitchens built for real cooking that still feel appropriate to a house built in 1910, primary baths with heated floors and a freestanding tub, paneled studies, custom built-ins, and the mechanical and electrical systems that make a century-old house comfortable through a New Jersey winter, wiring and ductwork routed so none of it shows.

Commercial Interior Design in Interlaken

How a Project Works
1. Start with a conversation
A consultation at our Little Silver studio or your property. We talk through the space, the scope, how you live or work in it, and what you want the finished project to accomplish. No obligation, and you will always be speaking with Beth.
2. Design and decisions
Space planning, materials, millwork and cabinetry design, lighting, and furnishings developed into one coherent plan, with drawings and documentation your contractor and trades can actually build from.
3. We carry it to the finish
We coordinate the trades, manage orders and timelines, and stay on the project through installation and styling, so you get a completed space rather than a plan left for you to assemble.
