Interior Design in Morristown, New Jersey
Morristown was Washington's winter headquarters twice: Arnold's Tavern on the Green in 1777, then the Ford Mansion through the harder winter of 1779–80, while the Continental Army camped at nearby Jockey Hollow. Morristown National Historical Park, established around those sites in 1933, was the first national historical park in the country. Interior design near the Green today works inside a different designation: the 213-acre Morristown Historic District, listed on the National Register in 1973.
Exterior work on one of the district's 352 contributing buildings needs a Certificate of Appropriateness from the borough's Historic Preservation Commission before it needs a contractor — the same district that includes Macculloch Hall and the Thomas Nast home. INSABELLADESIGN has practiced full-service interior design since 1996: space planning, custom millwork, kitchens and baths, lighting, and furnishings.

Luxury Residential Interior Design in Morristown
In the houses ringing the Green, the discipline is restoration first: reviving original moldings and pocket doors where they survive, matching profiles where they don't, then adding the primary bath, the mudroom, or the wired-for-everything kitchen a nineteenth-century plan never accounted for. A Certificate of Appropriateness covers the exterior; everything achievable behind the facade is a separate conversation, and usually the more interesting one.
In Normandy Heights, the problem is almost the opposite: a solid 1960s house with small, separated rooms and a kitchen closed off from everything else. We open the plan, raise the light, and update the primary suite — no commission review required, since the neighborhood sits outside the historic district. Franklin Corners adds a third housing type: 1980s townhome condos among the area's newer stock, where the work is a tighter footprint and shared-wall acoustics.

Commercial Interior Design in Morristown
Morristown's downtown centers on South Street and the Green, anchored by the Mayo Performing Arts Center, a 1,319-seat venue built in 1937 as the Community Theatre. We design and refresh the restaurants, boutique retail, and private medical and professional offices clustered around it, spaces that get foot traffic on a theater night and have to hold up to it.

The INSABELLADESIGN Difference
Morristown asks a designer to work in the historic district one week and a 1960s Normandy Heights renovation the next, sometimes on the same week's schedule. Because we manage every phase in-house, from the first Certificate of Appropriateness filing through the final installed fixture, that range doesn't mean a different team for each job — Beth Insabella Walsh runs the design on all of it personally.
INSABELLADESIGN has practiced since 1996, holds ASID and IIDA membership, and is WBENC-certified and woman-owned. Working across a historic district, a mid-century neighborhood, and a growing downtown means keeping separate playbooks for what each one allows and coordinating the trades that can execute all three well.

How a Project Works
1. Start with a conversation
A consultation at our Little Silver studio or your property. We talk through the space, the scope, how you live or work in it, and what you want the finished project to accomplish. No obligation, and you will always be speaking with Beth.
2. Design and decisions
Space planning, materials, millwork and cabinetry design, lighting, and furnishings developed into one coherent plan, with drawings and documentation your contractor and trades can actually build from.
3. We carry it to the finish
We coordinate the trades, manage orders and timelines, and stay on the project through installation and styling, so you get a completed space rather than a plan left for you to assemble.

Do you design commercial spaces as well as homes?
Yes. Alongside residential work we design medical, corporate, government, retail and multifamily interiors.
Do you take single rooms, or only whole homes?
Both. Scope runs from a single room to a full renovation or new build.
How do your fees work?
It depends on scope, from a single room to a full renovation or new build. After an initial consultation we provide a detailed proposal.
