Interior Design in Larchmont, New York
Larchmont is a small village with an outsized housing stock. Walk south of Palmer Avenue into the Manor and the streets fill with shingle-style houses and broad Queen Anne Victorians, wraparound porches, gambrel roofs, turrets, leaded glass and deep front halls, most of them built when this was a summer colony for New Yorkers who came up for the water. Manor Park still runs along the rocks at the edge of Long Island Sound, the Larchmont Yacht Club still sits on the point, and the houses still face the water the way they were designed to.
North of the tracks the character shifts. Stone-and-stucco Tudors with slate roofs and half-timbered gables, solid center-hall colonials, and the 1920s streets of Larchmont Gardens around the lake. The village center along Palmer and Chatsworth is genuinely walkable, and the train puts Grand Central roughly thirty-five minutes away, eighteen miles down the line. That combination is why Larchmont holds the residents it does: senior finance, law, media and agency people who work in Manhattan and want a real house waiting at the other end of the line.

Luxury Residential Interior Design in Larchmont
Manor houses come with a common set of problems. Grand rooms and a cramped kitchen. A back stair and a pantry that eat the square footage a modern family needs. Beautiful original detail on the first floor and nothing upstairs but small bedrooms and one tired bath. We begin with space planning and interior architecture: reworking the rear of the plan into a kitchen and family space that actually gets the light, carving a proper primary suite with a real bath and dressing room out of what were three bedrooms, and improving the flow from the front hall through to the porch and garden without gutting the character that made you buy the house.
The detail work follows the architecture. Custom millwork drawn to match the existing profiles: paneled wainscot, deep casing, coffered ceilings, window seats and built-in cabinetry sized to the bay it sits in. Custom cabinetry, honed marble and soapstone, quartersawn and rift-cut oak, plaster finishes, tile that suits the period, unlacquered brass. Lighting designed room by room, layered rather than dropped in, because the tall ceilings and dark woodwork here punish a thin lighting plan. Tudors get their own treatment: leaded glass, arched openings and stone need warmth and a deliberate hand with color, not a coat of white paint and hope.

Commercial Interior Design in Larchmont
The village center along Palmer and Chatsworth runs on small, high-quality independent businesses: restaurants, boutique retail, professional and financial offices, private medical, dental and specialty practices, and studios serving a demanding local clientele. We design those interiors with the same process we bring to the houses, starting with space planning and interior architecture rather than surface decoration, because in a narrow village storefront the plan is the difference between a room that works and one that never quite does.

The INSABELLADESIGN Difference
Beth Insabella Walsh leads every project this firm takes. She founded it in 1996 and has stayed in the drawings ever since, reviewing millwork profiles, finish schedules, fabrics and lighting layouts personally and standing on site through installation. You are not passed to a junior designer after the first meeting. Much of our work comes from referrals and repeat clients, which is what happens when the person who sold the work is the person who does it.
We are ASID and IIDA professional members and a WBENC-certified woman-owned business, with a trade bench built over nearly thirty years: millworkers, cabinetmakers, plaster and paint artisans, upholsterers, stone fabricators and installers who know our standard. That continuity is what makes an old shingle-style or Tudor interior come out right, because at this level the design lives or dies in the finish work. From the first walkthrough to the last piece of art hung, one senior team carries it.

I must say it's been my pleasure to have had the opportunity to work with Beth and her team at Insabella Design. My boss has been a long time client of Beth, over 25 years. And over those many years I was fortunate enough to work with Beth directly. She is extremely attentive and knows exactly what needs to be done. She has designed numerous major renovations and reconstruction projects for us. She has always been a pleasure to work with from the beginning of the projects to the very end. If I ever needed something in a pinch she always makes it happen. I would be completely lost without her and her support in keeping my boss comfortable and happy. Thank you Beth, to you and your team for your excellent services.

How a Project Works
1. Start with a conversation
A consultation at our Little Silver studio or your property. We talk through the space, the scope, how you live or work in it, and what you want the finished project to accomplish. No obligation, and you will always be speaking with Beth.
2. Design and decisions
Space planning, materials, millwork and cabinetry design, lighting, and furnishings developed into one coherent plan, with drawings and documentation your contractor and trades can actually build from.
3. We carry it to the finish
We coordinate the trades, manage orders and timelines, and stay on the project through installation and styling, so you get a completed space rather than a plan left for you to assemble.

Larchmont Interior Design FAQs
Do you design for Larchmont Manor's older shingle-style and Victorian houses?
Yes, and those houses are exactly the kind of problem we are built for. We keep and match the original detail where it is worth keeping, draw new millwork to the existing profiles, and rebuild the parts of the plan that no longer work, typically the kitchen, the primary suite and the back of the house. Where a full reset is needed we open walls, relocate plumbing and mechanicals and rework the interior architecture from the framing out.
How do you handle homes near the Sound and Manor Park?
We design around the water and the light it throws. Key rooms and primary suites are oriented to the view, glare and sightlines are planned early with window treatments and finish selections, and materials are chosen to take salt air and strong afternoon sun without going tired. The indoor-to-porch-and-terrace transition gets designed as one sequence, not as an afterthought.
Can you work on a Larchmont Tudor without stripping its character?
Yes. Tudors need warmth, layered lighting and a confident hand with color, not a wholesale coat of white paint. We keep the leaded glass, arched openings, stone and heavy timber doing their job, and we modernize the kitchen, baths and mechanical comfort behind them so the house works for a current family.
Do you offer full project management, or only design?
Full project management is included in how we work. We produce the drawings and documentation, run the custom millwork and cabinetry, coordinate the trades, handle procurement and expediting, and manage installation day. Our clients hire us precisely so they are not the ones chasing a dozen vendors between meetings in Manhattan.
Do you serve Larchmont from out of state, and how does that work?
Our studio is in Little Silver, New Jersey, and we work throughout New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Florida, so out-of-state projects are routine rather than an exception. We travel to every site we design, for walkthroughs, trade coordination and installation, and we consolidate site visits around real construction milestones so the schedule keeps moving.

If you own a house in Larchmont Manor, the Gardens, or on any of the streets above Palmer, and the interior no longer matches the architecture or the way you live, let's talk. We will walk the house with you, tell you plainly what it needs and what it does not, and put a clear scope and proposal in front of you before anything is committed.
